5 Ways Wear a Crop Top Without Showing Your Stomach

Updated: Feb 8

To know me is to know how much I love to rock a crop top regardless of the season. In my opinion, crop tops are great way to create a casual look and have no age limit. Even my 58-year old mother wears crop tops and she considers herself a conservative dresser.

Some women may have come to believe that a crop top has to show your belly in order for it to bring your look together but that is so far from the truth.

There are so many reasons why someone would rather not show off their mid-section and these include: religious reasons, insecurities, health reasons, skin sensitivity or simply style preference.

No matter your reason for not wanting your midriff to be on display, this is still a fashion trend anyone can partake in if done right.

If you are one of those who would love to wear crop tops but struggle to find ways to to do so without showing your stomach, then this post is definitely for you.

I shall be providing you with different ways to not only style the crop tops but also different versions of crop tops that can work, depending on your body type and personal style.

The key to styling most of these outfits will be either High-waisted bottoms and/ or a longer crop top.

1) Crop top and pencil skirt

When styling a crop top or sweater with a pencil skirt (or any skirt for that matter), with the goal of not showing any belly, always go for high waisted skirts. This is because the skirt would already be hitting you above your natural waist line and closer to your rib cage, making it reach right underneath most crop tops.

The shorter your crop top, the higher your skirt should be in order to prevent any belly from showing.

This style works great if you are trying to hide any skin from showing. However, if you are trying to hide belly fat, opt for a longer and loose crop top. This one would be perfect! If you have a smaller waist and wider hips, this would look so sexy on you and could be the perfect outfit to turn heads in as it emphasizes your curves.

2) Crop top and palazzo pants

Palazzo pants, and wide-leg pants in general, are great in providing a loose fit around the legs while holding you in at your waist. They're a great candidate for crop top looks. One of the best ways to style them in this case would be with tank tops - either loose or fitted.

A fitted cropped tank top could be tucked in, if long enough or would hit you right where your pants sat at your waist. This way, you wouldn't have to show any skin and still look chic.

P.S. Palazzo pants are an easy way to hide any love handles you're not quite comfortable with showing off. I'm really loving THESE.

3) Crop top and high-waisted pants

Here comes the classic: a cropped shirt with a pair of high waist pants. This look is one of my favorite outfit ideas and one any woman (or man) can rock whether they have a flat tummy or not. My personal preference is when the crop top hits just about the waist of my high waist jeans, showing just a hint of skin.

THIS one would be the perfect length.

If you have a short torso, I recommend jeans that reach your natural waistline and a longer top, to elongate your upper body. The Topshop Joni jeans are my absolute favorite pair of high waisted jeans.

Style this look with either a denim jacket or long jacket for a cute date night look - no belly button display accomplished.

4) Crop top and regular jeans

If your pair of jeans are not high waisted, this option is still an everyday wear you could rock. Try working with baggy crop tops or a short style crop top for a more casual look. Want to dress things up and add a more slimming effect? Then a black crop top with heels can take things up a notch.

For a perfect Fall outfit, swap your crop top for a cropped sweater, some ankle boots and perhaps a leather jacket. Now you can be a member of the street style stars.

5) Crop top and maxi skirt

Another great option for all, regardless of body shape. Whether you are pairing your crop tops with regular or high waist skirts, you can always pull this look off with a tank top (*tucked in or not), a loose crop top or a well-fitted crop top.

I'm loving this option for my plus-sized queens.

If you have a more boxy shape, then you might prefer to opt for a loose-fitting maxi with a more fitted shirt to balance out your proportions. If you have a small torso, then a looser-fitting shirt works great as it draws attention away from that.

I hope these fashion tips have proven to be useful to you. It's important to know your body type and understand what does and doesn't work for you.

The rule of thumb here is that high waist bottoms work great with a short top. You can create many different looks with a plain crop top by pairing it with different bottoms as mentioned above. If you want to show some skin, just not your belly, opt for an off-shoulder top.

If your bottoms are not high waisted, long tops are your friend.

Play around with different crop top outfits because the right crop top may work for one pair of pants or skirt but not the other. Just remember, you do NOT need to have a flat stomach in order to take advantage of this cool, fun & flirty trend.
