5 ways to wear rain boots to work

I used to always wonder, ‘can I actually war rain boots to the office?’ For some reason, rainboots seem to be footwear that is not supposed to be spotted in a professional setting. It’s almost like proper winter boots which you do not tend to see at business conferences, but you know folks had to wear them to get past the 10 inches of snow outside.

There’s this unspoken rule about chunky boots not being professional enough for the office. You can wear them to get there but then have to take them off and change into something more appropriate upon arriving your destination.

Can I wear rain boots to work?

I am not sure where this originated from but in today’s blog post, I want to show you how you can wear your rain boots to work and still keep them on at the office if you want to. We have no control over the weather and should not feel like we have to keep changing shoes throughout the day to fit in. If you do this, that’s fine but I want to show you how another way is possible.

The trick to staying stylish yet dry on rainy days is to invest in the right pair of rain boots. A sleek waterproof boot could take you from the bus shelter to your director’s office without you having to change shoes if you don’t feel like it. Of course, the option to change into a pair of ballet flats or heels is still there. You just have another option. The wet weather may bring your spirits down, but it does not have to reflect in your outfit.

Classic Hunter boots

Along with rainboots, you want to invest in a waterproof jacket, preferably one with a hoodie. I would be sharing some great options in this post as well. If you are wondering how you can show up to the office on a wet morning without compromising your personal style, this post is for you.

Where can I buy stylish rain boots?

- When it comes to the best rain boots, there is one brand that pops up every time and that is Hunter. Hunter boots came into the game and provided us with a sleeker option of rain boots that we could actually pair with skirts and dresses. They offer both tall boots as well as short rain boots, allowing you to style them with different clothing items while keeping your feet dry.

Their waterproof rainboots are arguably the most popular rainboots on the market and they even cater to kids with their children’s section of rainboots. Their boots also come in a range of colors, allowing you to show your fun side even on a gloomy day. Pair them with a cute rain jacket for a chic look.

- Another brand offering great rainboots is Jeffrey Campbell. Their boots are very practical so you could actually wear them on a day to day. Moreover, their price point is lower than that of Hunter boots and so if you are on a tight budget, this may be the better option for you.

You could easily pair these boots with a pair of jeans or a pair of leggings and a chunky sweater for a cute look in the rainy weather.

You can find Jeffrey Campbell boots on Nordstrom as well, in case they happen to be sold out on their website.

- If you love your designer brands, one that seems to have decent rainboots is Coach. Believe it or not, the Coach rain boots are more affordable than the others on this list as they are currently on sale. I love the pop of color these pink Coach Rivington rain boots add to an outfit. You can venture away from the typical black rain boots if you’re headed to a more casual event or just putting together a casual outfit.

- Joules is the last brand to be added to this list and their rainboots have some amazing reviews and their prices are also cheaper than the Hunter brand. Their boots mostly come in neutral colors such as black and dark green.

Now that you have an idea of some of the best rain boots out there, let us talk about the best ways to wear them out in a stylish manner. When it comes to styling a pair of rubber boots to wear to work, here are my favorite ways:

1) Rain boots with skinny jeans

A great way to create a casual or even a business casual look with your rain boots is by pairing them with skinny jeans. For a casual look, you could try pairing distressed jeans with a tank top. This is a good idea for rainy sunny days. On cold and rainy days, the right pair of rain boots could be worn with cozy sweaters for an effortless look you could wear to grab a coffee.

My favorite way to style rain boots to the office is by wearing a simple blouse with a blazer. It’s such a no-fuss outfit that won’t show any raindrops that may fall on you. High rain boots work best with skinny jeans as they’re really easy to tuck in without bunching.

2) Rain boots with a pencil skirt

Seeing as pencil skirts are one of the most popular wardrobe staples, it only makes sense they are added to this list. You can create a waterproof and effortless look with a pair of Hunter rain boots by pairing a knee-length pencil skirt with a sweater or blouse in a solid color. Add a pair of black tights if it’s cold outside and complete your look with a waterproof trench coat.

Both tall as well as ankle rain boots work for this professional outfit. If you’re headed to a less formal event, you can opt for a mini skirt instead of a knee-high or midi skirt. I encourage you to always wear socks with your rain boots to avoid them sticking to your feet.

3) Rain boots with a maxi skirt

Sometimes you have the perfect Spring outfit planned out the night before, only to wake up to pouring showers. That’s when you know it’s a great idea to own a pair of cute boots you could pair with your floral maxi skirt. I love the idea of pairing maxi skirt with ankle rain boots to allow you to move more freely.

This is the best way to style a maxi skirt with rain boots in my opinion. Complete your look with a light sweater and a black leather jacket for a sassy Spring or Fall look. Another cute outfit you could create would be a cropped sweater with a maxi skirt and your trusted rainboots.

4) Rain boots with a pair of pants

An easy way to style your snow boots or ankle rain boots for the wet and cold weather is by pairing them with a pair of cropped pants, a cardigan and a rain jacket. This is a stylish look you could wear to the office when it’s yucky outside but you still wish to look professional. You could even add a blazer on top or opt for a trench coat.

Cropped trousers and culottes work great with heavy-duty rain boots because they don’t need to be tucked in and you don’t have to worry about the hems getting soaked. Don’t forget the wool socks if it’s super cold outside.

5) Rain boots with a dress

It does not get more feminine than pairing a cute dress with a pair of stylish rainboots. You could even play around with different prints such as polka dots and combine them with your rain boots. Boots tens to come in solid colors and so it’s easy to pair them with different colors in your closet. If it’s colder outside, add a pair of tights to your dress or opt for a longer one. You could also pair it with a jacket in a neutral color.

I hope from this post you have seen some of the best options when it comes to styling rain boots for work. Irrespective of your office’s dress code, these are looks you can pull off and still look stylish.

I encourage you to always wear socks when wearing rain boots to prevent them from sticking and to avoid sweaty feet. You can also wear tall socks with the tall rain boots to add an extra layer of warmth.

Rain boots are the perfect footwear to wear when it’s raining because they are practical; not you know they can also be stylish.
